Nobel laureate to participate at "Beyond 125 Years" Event on Freedom and Justice
Renowned Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman is set to deliver a speech at the upcoming event, "Beyond 125 Years: Securing Our World’s Digital Future," which aims to galvanize international efforts towards justice and accountability in the digital age.
Scheduled for 30 September, the event will take place in The Hague and is co-organised by the City of The Hague, the CyberPeace Institute, and the Global Cyber Alliance.
Karman, known for her advocacy for human rights and democracy, will address the gathering of global leaders, cyber defenders, and philanthropists. Her speech will focus on the essential themes of freedom and justice, closely aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims to ensure access to justice for all and promote inclusive institutions.
This year’s event is particularly significant as it seeks to establish a dedicated fund aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) around the world.
The fund will finance essential cybersecurity tools and services, ensuring that these organizations can operate safely and effectively in an increasingly digital landscape. This initiative underscores the vital role of cybersecurity in safeguarding peace and justice globally.
In her address, Karman is also expected to highlight the importance of empowering civil society through secure digital frameworks, emphasizing that justice and freedom in the digital realm are fundamental to achieving sustainable development.
The event will serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, encouraging participants to take actionable steps towards a safer digital environment for NGOs.
