Activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman has revealed the goal of the protest by one million people in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa today was to condemn the blockade the Houthi militia is imposing around the capital and to say the republic has its own people to defend it.
"A million people took to the streets of Sanaa today like they did yesterday across Yemen to say no to violence and to the blockade on the capital and to warn against invading it by armed militias," she said.
"The people did not take to the streets to give the incompetent government a certificate of success and integrity but rather to demand the militias be disarmed and the government impose the rule of law in all parts of the country".
"We went out to say: long live the republican system and go to hell those who don’t accept that!".
Moreover, Karman said the mass demonstration affirmed rejection to civil and sectarian wars and protection of the republic being threatened by the militias.
